North - Brittany, Normandy -
Brittany
and Normandy are France's most popular regions, especially with the
British as it is just a hop across the Channel and you find
yourself surrounded by outstanding scenery, picturesque villages,
remarkable history and fine French produce.
The coastline is rugged and interspersed with
lovely sandy coves and long white golden beaches, whilst inland
regions reflect its agricultural character.
Steeped in history towns worth visiting include Morlaix and Quimper.
Popular Brittany family resorts include Brest, Concarneau, Nante,
Vannes, with Normandy hotspots being Honfluer, Rouen, Giverny and
you must pay a visit to Mont St-Michel is one of the region's most
distinctive features, rising 'like a granite pyramid' off the
Normandy coast.
West - Vendee, Aquitaine, Dordogne -
Vendee
is blessed with a microclimate ensuring high probability of hot
sunny days during the Summer and with 100miles of excellent beaches
backed by pine forests, the resorts of La Rochelle and Ile de Rey
are popular with families.
The Dordogne, just slightly inland takes it’s
name from the Dordogne river and offers a wonderful mix of caves,
chateaux, medieval towns and villages and stunning countryside.
The rivers are clean and ideal for swimming and
canoeing. Places of interest include Bergerac, St Emilion and
Sarlat. The long
Atlantic coastline that reaches from Bordeaux down to Biarritz is
called Aquitaine and is primarily backed by enormous forests
sheltering long sandy beaches and resorts including Arcachon,
Biscarosse, and Hossegor.
South - Provence, Cote d'Azur -
Regarded
widely as the most beautiful area of France , Provence is bursting
with delightful scenery including lavender fields, vineyards,
orchards and olive groves. Coupled with it’s temperate climate,
immaculate beaches and up-market resorts such as Avignon and
Montpellier , it is not difficult to see why many celebrities have
homes here. Provence’s
neighbour, the Cote D’Azur also known as the French Riviera is a
playground for the rich and famous with the coastline dotted with
the popular resorts of St Tropez, Cannes, Nice, St Raphael, Frejus,
Antibes and Cassis to name but a few.
August is without a doubt “busy” with other
months being less hectic, however you will always be made to feel
very welcome by the locals.
Corsica -
Known
as France’s “little bit of Italy” Corsica has 1000 kms of glorious
coastline and approximately 200 beaches varying from white and
golden find sandy ones to pebbly stretches made up of millions of
sea stones of every colour.
It is an island of culture with and abundance of
music, art and festivals and the locals are very proud people,
generous, free spirited and very hospitable hosts.
The islands cuisine is made up of French and
Italian influences with earthy style cooking made from sun-kissed
fruits and vegetables from the fertile land and served with cured
meats and cheeses.
Popular resorts on the island include Porto, Ajaccio , Bastia and
Bonifacio, all offer excellent beaches, superb restaurants and
